Gamification usually means something on your screen wants your attention. This is the opposite: your pets quietly keep a tally of their own lives, and you can go and look at it whenever you feel like it. If you never open the trophy screen, nothing will ever remind you it exists.
The six achievements
| Achievement | What it's for | Milestone |
|---|---|---|
| First Steps | Your pet went for a little walk. 🐾 | 1 km walked |
| Marathon | Your pet ran a full marathon while you answered emails. 🏅 | 42.195 km |
| Ultra Runner | Your pet went way past the finish line. 🔥 | 250 km |
| Pet Whisperer | A hundred moments of love, delivered. 💕 | 100 hearts sent |
| Snack Time | A hundred treats, toys and naps handed out. 🍎 | 100 pets cared for |
| Full House | Ten pets on screen at once. Cosy! 🏡 | 10 pets at once |
Distance is the interesting one
Every pet measures the ground it actually covers on its own feet. Falling in from the top of the screen doesn't count. Being dragged across the desktop by you doesn't count. Getting sucked through a teleportation portal definitely doesn't count. Only walking.
It adds up across every pet and every display, so a two-monitor setup with a full lineup racks up roughly double. Bigger pets move faster, so the size slider compounds it too. The Marathon milestone takes somewhere around a week and a half of normal use with the default pets on one screen.
Three rules it sticks to
🚫 No floating widget
Apple's Game Center access point is switched off permanently. Nothing hovers over your desktop.
🚫 No sign-in prompt
The app never asks you to log in. The sign-in screen only appears if you tap the button yourself.
🚫 No nagging
Unlocking something shows a small dot on the trophy button. That's the entire notification.
It all works signed out
Every achievement, every stat and the whole trophy screen work with no account, no network and no subscription. Game Center is only a place to publish scores if you want to compare with other people — the gamification itself is local and belongs to you.
And every achievement is reachable on the free tier. Putting one behind the paywall would turn the leaderboard into a ranking of who paid, which would make it worthless.
What counts as looking after a pet
Snack Time and Pet Whisperer only count things you did — feeding a pet, giving it a toy, asking it to sleep or relax, sending it love. The app also does some of these on its own from time to time, and those deliberately don't count. Otherwise the achievement would just be a timer.
Platform availability
Achievements and the leaderboard are on macOS today, built on Game Center. Windows parity is on the way; the underlying stats and the rest of the interaction features — feeding, toys and pet conversations — already work everywhere.
